Update from the Inquiry

20 December 2017

Procedural Hearing

The Inquiry is committed to ensuring that those most directly affected by the fire are able to participate in its work and that their voices are heard. One of the main purposes of the Procedural Hearing on 11 and 12 December was to discuss with those acting for all core participants including survivors, the bereaved and other local residents how those aims can best be achieved and the effectiveness of the Inquiry ensured. The transcripts and videos of the hearing, which was live-streamed at the Notting Hill Methodist Church, are available to view on the proceedings page.

The Chairman has today written to all core participants, responding to the issues they raised in their written and oral submissions. The Chairman’s full response has been published on the key documents section of the Inquiry’s website.

Core participants

424 individuals and organisations have now been granted Core Participant status with a number of applications still being considered as they continue to be received.

Community engagement

To date, the Inquiry has run a number of public and private drop-in sessions in the North Kensington area for those wanting to raise questions directly with the Inquiry team, most recently at the Latymer Community Church. The Inquiry has also had a presence at the Family and Friends Assistance Centre in High Street Kensington. These drop-ins have been supported by the recently published guides to the work of the Inquiry.

The Inquiry will continue to have a presence in the local community and details of further public drop-ins and engagement activity will be published on the website in the New Year.

Future proceedings

The Inquiry is making arrangements for a further Procedural Hearing to be held on 30 and 31 January 2018 at Holborn Bars, which will be live-streamed on the Inquiry’s website and at the Notting Hill Methodist Church. Details will be published in due course.
